Panama City, Look Up!

A Lunar Eclipse Is Coming Thursday Night!

By Serita Scanlan, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Panama City, FL August 27, 2026

Panama City families have a pretty cool reason to stay up a little late Thursday night! A partial lunar eclipse will cross our sky on August 27, covering almost the entire moon in Earth’s shadow and possibly giving it a reddish-orange glow.

The show gets easier to see around 9:33 p.m., with the best view around 11:12 p.m. here in Panama City.

Before you head outside, grab a blanket, find a spot with a clear view of the sky, and give your eyes a few minutes to adjust to the darkness. No telescope or special glasses are needed for a lunar eclipse — just look up and enjoy the show!

Make it fun for the kids: Grab some crayons and print our lunar eclipse coloring page for a little nighttime family fun.

Will the weather cooperate?

Maybe! Panama City is looking warm and muggy Thursday night, with temperatures in the upper 70s and clouds hanging around. Showers and thunderstorms are possible, especially earlier in the evening, so eclipse viewing may come down to catching a lucky break in the clouds.

Florida weather rule: Don’t like the weather? Wait five minutes — it’ll change!
